Zakir Naik Controversy On Jizya Tax: Islamic scholar Zakir Naik, who has been declared a fugitive in India, is going to the neighboring country Pakistan and giving a speech. He fled India in 2016 and went to Malaysia, where the government has given him shelter. Meanwhile, Pakistan sent him an invitation and asked him to come to the country and give a speech. To welcome him, the Shahbaz Sharif government spread the red carpet and also provided Z-plus security. However, in the name of propagating Pakistan Zakir Islam, they are spewing venom against non-Muslims. An example of this was found when he justified collecting Jizya (tax) from non-Muslims.
Zakir Naik, during one of his programs in Pakistan, answered a question which was related to the Christian community there. A Pakistani Christian asked Naik why Christians were hated in Pakistan, even though Prophet Mohammed had taught not to hate. Naik’s answer surprised many people. He said that non-Muslims have got the most protection in Islamic history. The reason for this is the tax called “Jizya”.
Provides protection from taxes received from non-Muslims
Naik described Jizya as a small tax and said that under Islamic rulers, non-Muslims who paid “Jizya” tax received protection. Through this, they got the right to live and seek refuge in Islamic states, without the condition of adopting Islam. Naik described Jizya as less than income tax and described it as a tax paid in return for security. Naik’s statement caused a lot of controversy, because Jizya tax was historically imposed on non-Muslims under Islamic rule and there is mixed perception about it.
Poison spewed against India
Zakir Naik spewed venom by making baseless allegations of oppression of Muslims in India. Giving the example of Malaysia, he said that there are 6 percent Hindus there. The way the government treats Hindus is an example. On the contrary, Muslims in India constitute 14 percent but what is the government doing there?
