Will Uddhav Thackeray’s party contest BMC elections alone? Sanjay Raut’s statement created a stir

Maharashtra News: Shiv Sena UBT MP’s statement regarding Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections in Mumbai has created a political panic. Sanjay Raut on Saturday (December 21) hinted that Shiv Sena (UBT) may contest the BMC elections alone.

Sanjay Raut told reporters that party workers are insisting on the organization fighting alone in the local body elections because there are more contenders this time compared to the Lok Sabha or state assembly elections. He said, "Talks are going on between Uddhav Thackeray and other party leaders (about contesting the BMC elections alone). The workers want the party to contest the elections alone."

Undivided Shiv Sena had control over BMC for 25 consecutive years from 1997 to 2022. The tenure of the previous elected representatives of BMC ended in early March 2022. Raut said that the strength of the party in Mumbai is undeniable.

He said that if we had got more seats to contest in Mumbai (during the assembly elections), we would have won them. Raut claimed that it is necessary to win Mumbai, otherwise the city will be separated from Maharashtra.
