Mamata Banejree On NIA Attack: The NIA team, which had come to raid the Bhupatinagar blast case in West Bengal, was attacked on Saturday (06 April). Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s statement has come out on this matter. He raised questions on the investigating agency itself and asked why the NIA team conducted the raid at night? Was the police informed?
He said, “This is what happens when village people see a stranger in the middle of the night. Why arrest during elections? We want the Election Commission to work impartially and not become a BJP-run commission.” Mamata Banerjee addressed a rally in Balurghat in South Dinajpur district, where she accused NIA officials of attacking villagers in Bhupatinagar over an incident related to bursting of firecrackers in 2022. He claimed that the confrontation occurred due to the NIA team’s early morning visit to the villagers’ houses.
Mamta Banerjee raised questions on NIA itself
Actually, the NIA team had gone to investigate a bomb blast case of 2022, in which three people had died. NIA officers were attacked by villagers while returning to Kolkata after making arrests in connection with the case. Mamata Banerjee criticized the BJP government for allegedly using central agencies for political gains and called for impartiality from the Election Commission. He also expressed concern over the transfers of state police officers by the Election Commission and questioned why officers of agencies like ED, CBI, IT were not changed.
NIA arrested two conspirators
At the same time, in this case, NIA has arrested two main conspirators amidst strong resistance from the uncontrolled crowd. These people have been identified as Balai Charan Maiti and Manobrata Jana. The duo were arrested after extensive searches at five places, including Jana’s house, where a mob of local residents tried to stop the NIA team.
NIA officers were injured in this incident and their vehicle was also damaged. NIA has lodged a complaint in this regard at the local police station. Both the arrested accused were accused of conspiring to make crude bombs and explode them to spread terror.
As per the High Court order dated 21 March 2023, the NIA took over the case on 4 June 2023 and re-registered it as RC 16/2023/NIA/DLI under various sections of the law including the Explosive Substances Act. Did. During the investigation, the NIA exposed the role of several other accused in the case, including the arrested accused Manobrata Jana of Naruabila village and Balai Charan Maiti of Ninaruya Analberia.
The NIA, in its investigation, had found that both the men had actively participated in and supported the conspiracy to make a country-made bomb, which led to today’s search and arrests. The arrested accused will be produced before the Special NIA Court, Kolkata as per law. Investigation is going on in the matter.
