Matter of knowledge: Sanatan Dharma is ever-new, continuous and eternally ancient. All work is organized in Sanatan Dharma or Hindu religion. There is some reason or logic behind everything. All this is written in detail in Hindu religious scriptures. But, in today’s fast-paced world, people do not get time to study Hindu religious scriptures. It can also be said that people do not want to study.
Columnist, Dr. Mahendra Thakur According to him, whatever may be the reasons or excuses behind not studying Hindu religious scriptures, one of the main reasons is Macaulay’s English education system. Sanskars have great importance in the Hindu way of life or tradition. In this, there is a beautiful system of rituals from before the child comes into the womb till his life after birth and till his death. Even today 16 rituals are in practice.
When a child or person talks or behaves rudely, people say that ‘He has not been taught values‘ Or ‘this is bad cultureWhen a child or a person speaks to someone older than him by saying words like ‘tu’, ‘yours, yours, yours’ etc. or in a harsh manner, then people become uncomfortable. Rather it is considered bad. It is considered uncultured to talk to elders by calling them ‘tu’. The question arises why is this so? What is the reason behind this that addressing the elders with the word ‘Tu’ by young people or children is considered as uncultured?
Why should we not address our elders as ‘Tu’, ‘Tera/Teri’, Tujhe etc.? An attempt has been made to answer this question on the basis of Mahabharata written by Maharishi Ved Vyas and Lord Shri Ganesha. The complete background of the answer to this question is in chapters 65-71 of Karna Parva of Mahabharata.,
According to Mahabharata, after handing over the responsibility of war to Bhimsen, Shri Krishna and Arjun go to Yudhishthir. When he comes to him, Yudhishthir asks Arjun about the story of Karna being killed out of confusion. When asked by Yudhishthir, Arjun explains to Yudhishthir the reason for not being able to kill Karna till now and vows to kill him.
Hearing this from Arjuna, Yudhishthira became very angry and insulted Arjuna and said very bad words. Out of anger, speaking harsh words, Yudhishthir asked Arjun to give his Gandiva bow to Shri Krishna or to some other king (Karna Parva, Chapter 68, Verse 26-27), not only this, in Verse 30, Yudhishthir scolded Arjun and said , “Curse to this Gandiva bow of yours., Shame on the might of your arms, Curse these innumerable arrows of yours!, “Shame on this flag of yours presented by Lord Hanuman and shame on this chariot given by Agnidev.”,
Arjun got very angry when Yudhishthir said this. He took up the sword with the desire to kill Yudhishthir. Seeing his anger at that time, Lord Krishna asked Arjun, ‘Partha! What is this? How did you pick up the sword?’ And scolded Arjun a lot. On this Arjun tells about his vow or fast to Lord Krishna,
,Whoever among the human beings says to me that you give your Gandiva bow to some other person who is superior to you in knowledge of weapons or strength,, So Keshav! I will kill him forcefully. Similarly, if someone calls Bhimsen ‘mustachioed and beardless’, they will kill him., Vrishniveer! King Yudhishthir has repeatedly told me in front of you that ‘You give your bow to someone else.” (Karna Parva, Chapter 69, Verses 62-63).
Arjun further says that if he kills Yudhishthir, he himself will not survive. After this, Arjun asks Lord Krishna for such a solution which will protect his vow and also save the lives of both the brothers.
When Arjun asked, Lord Krishna explained to Arjun why Yudhishthir said harsh words. Then in the same chapter, while explaining the measures to protect Arjuna’s vow, he said, “
Yada manam labhate mananaarhastada sa vaai jeevati jeevloke.
Yadavmanam labhate mahantam tada jeevnamrit ityuchyate sa. 81..
that is, As long as an honorable man gets respect in this world,, Until then he is truly alive. when he begins to receive great insults, Then he is considered dead while he is still alive.,
Tvamityatrabhavantam hi bruhi partha yudhishthiram.
Tvamityukto hi nihato Gururbhawati Bharat. 83 ,
that is, Parth! You have always called Yudhishthir ‘you’., them today ,you, Tell me. India ! If any teacher ,you, If this is said then in the eyes of the sages he becomes a murderer.
In the next verse, Lord Krishna told about a Shruti whose deities are Atharva and Angira.
Avadhen Vadhaah Prokto Yad Gurustvamiti Prabhu.
Tad Bruhi Tvam Yanmayoktam Dharmarajasya Dharmavit. 86..
The meaning of that Shruti is this-‘You tell the Guru to kill him without even killing him. Even if you are a religious person, as I have told you,, According to him, use the word ‘Tu’ for Dharamraj.,
After hearing the words of Lord Krishna, Arjun did the same and later became filled with guilt. this self-indulgence
To get out of this, Lord Shri Krishna told Arjun another solution. After Arjun did so, the two brothers were reunited.
The essence is that one should not address elders as ‘Tu’. Its classical proof is in Mahabharata. Kaliyuga arrived only after Lord Krishna left the earth during the Mahabharata period and this classical knowledge became prevalent in our tradition.
