What is the matter?
Actually, a PIL has been filed in the Delhi High Court by travel companies to protect the personal data of passengers. However, the Honorable High Court rejected this PIL and said that there is no representation from the government for this. The applicant filing the PIL was asked to go to the Grievance Forum of the Government of India and lodge his complaint.
Two leading travel companies MakeMyTrip and Goibibo started trending after the PIL filed in Delhi High Court regarding misuse of users’ data by travel companies. Additionally, users have also shared memes of other travel companies like EaseMyTrip etc. on X.
Fear of misuse of personal data
Regarding the misuse of personal data of travelers by travel companies, the Delhi High Court said that foreign travel companies not only collect the personal data of common citizens, but they also have access to the personal data of the country’s prominent personalities, ministers, civil servants and their families. Data of High Court, Supreme Court judges etc. is also available.
This PIL was filed by BJP leader and lawyer Ashwini Upadhyay in Delhi High Court. In its petition, the fear of misuse of Aadhaar and passport information of passengers by travel companies was expressed. In the petition filed by travel companies in Delhi High Court regarding personal data of passengers, it was also claimed that many companies are partially working in India. These companies are being completely operated by Chinese investors.
However, no comment has been made on the PIL filed by travel companies in Delhi High Court regarding data theft. During this time, many users on social media platforms have opened a front against these travel companies and have decided to delete the apps.
