Rahul Gandhi Shared Rajiv Gandhi Memory: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said that he does not like the government residence ’10 Janpath’ located in Lutyens area of Delhi very much, because his father Rajiv Gandhi died while living here. He said this in a video of his interaction with some painter and potter families on the occasion of Diwali. Nephew Rehan Rajeev Vadra is also seen with him in this video.
In the video, Rahul Gandhi and Rehan can also be seen working with painters. In this video, Rahul Gandhi tells his nephew, “My father died while living here, so I don’t like this house very much.”
Reference to Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination
Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by terrorists on 21 May 1991 in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. At that time Rajiv Gandhi’s official residence was ’10 Janpath’. Since then, his wife and Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi lives in this residence. After losing his membership in the last Lok Sabha due to a court decision, Rahul Gandhi had vacated his Tughlaq Lane residence last year and since then he has been living with his mother. Later his membership was also reinstated.
Dialogue with painters and potters
Rahul Gandhi interacted with the families of painters and potters to learn about their experiences and working conditions. Posting this video on his YouTube channel, he said, “A memorable Diwali, with special people. Celebrated this Diwali by working with some painter brothers and making clay lamps with a potter family. A close up of their work. Observed, tried to learn their skills and understood their problems and problems.”
‘Those who build houses for others can hardly run their own houses’
Rahul Gandhi says, “They (people) do not go to their homes. We celebrate festivals happily, earn some money, so we forget our village, city, family. They make happiness out of mud, for others. Are they able to live in the light while lighting the festival? The house-builders can hardly run their houses.”
He said, “Diwali means light, which can dispel the darkness of poverty and helplessness, whose flame makes every household smile. We have to create such a system – which gives rights to talent and respect to contribution – to make Diwali a happy one for everyone.” The Congress leader said, “I hope this Diwali brings prosperity, progress and love in the lives of all of you.”
