Pannun Assassination Plot Case: Former Indian government official Vikas Yadav has been accused by American officials of his alleged role in the conspiracy to murder Khalistani terrorist Gurupatwant Singh Pannu. Responding to a question about the individual identified in the US Department of Justice (DOJ) indictment in connection with the case, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that the individual is “no longer an employee of the Government of India.” The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has also put Vikas Yadav in its list of “wanted” fugitives.

1. Vikas Yadav is facing charges of “murder for hire and money laundering” in connection with the failed conspiracy to murder Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu.
2. According to the US Justice Department, he is still absconding. In the first indictment, Vikas Yadav was identified only as “CC-1” (co-conspirator).
3. FBI Director Christopher Wray said, “The accused is an Indian government employee. He allegedly conspired with a criminal associate and attempted to murder an American citizen on American soil for exercising his First Amendment rights.”
4. The criminal associate referred to is a man named Nikhil Gupta, who was arrested in the Czech Republic and extradited to the US to stand trial in the alleged conspiracy to murder Gurpatwant Singh Pannu. Nikhil was arrested last year and is currently in jail.
5. US Attorney General Merrick B. Garland said, “Today’s charges demonstrate that the Justice Department will not tolerate efforts to target and endanger Americans and to undermine the rights of every American citizen.”
6. FBI has also released a ‘wanted’ poster with three photographs of Vikas Yadav. According to the FBI, an arrest warrant against him was issued on October 10.
7. Vikas Yadav, also known as “Vikas” and “Amanat,” is the second person to be charged in connection with the case, according to the indictment.
8. According to the indictment, “Vikas has mentioned his position as ‘Senior Field Officer’ whose responsibilities are ‘Security Management’ and ‘Intelligence’. He has also previously served in India’s Central Reserve Police Force and has a ‘War He has received ‘official training’ in ‘craft’ and ‘weapons’ and is an Indian citizen and conspired to murder the victim.”
9. However, Vikas Yadav is seen in army uniform in a picture, but there is no rank epaulet on it. The US indictment said he was originally from the CRPF and was an “Assistant Commandant”.
10. The 18-page indictment also pictures two men exchanging dollars in a car in New York, which federal prosecutors said was money transferred to a car in New York by a man on behalf of Nikhil Gupta and Vikas Yadav. The alleged killer was given the charge of killing a Sikh separatist leader.
It has been alleged in the indictment that Vikas Yadav, along with his associate Nikhil Gupta, had conspired to murder the Sikh separatist leader in the summer of 2023. Nikhil Gupta had hired a person to commit the murder. The unidentified person, who was an FBI informant, asked for US$100,000 for this work and took US$15,000 as advance payment on June 9, 2023.
