Why did Congress give ticket to Ariba Khan instead of Ishrat Jahan? Gave a big statement on Amanatullah Khan

Delhi Okhla Assembly Election 2025: Congress released its fourth list for Delhi Assembly elections on Tuesday evening (January 14). Among the seats for which candidates have been announced in this list, Okhla seat is being discussed the most. Actually, Congress has given ticket to Ariba Khan instead of Ishrat Jahan. Areeba Khan is a councilor and her father Asif Khan has been MLA from Okhla twice. Areeba will face the sitting MLA Amanatullah Khan.

Congress was seriously considering giving ticket to Ishrat Jahan from this seat. Former councilor Ishrat Jahan was in jail on charges of Delhi riots. Because of the possible sympathy factor, Congress wanted to bet on Ishrat. Even Rahul Gandhi had advocated for Ishrat in the last meeting of the Congress Central Election Committee, but things did not work out.

Congress leaders protested in the name of Ishrat?
According to sources, some big leaders of Congress contesting the elections put pressure on the top leadership of the party not to give ticket to Ishrat Jahan. He even threatened that if Ishrat contests the elections, he will not contest the elections. The Congress leadership was left with no option but to surrender. However, now Owaisi’s party has started cornering Congress by raising the issue of not giving ticket to Ishrat.

AIMIM said attack on Congress
AIMIM said that by cutting the ticket of Ishrat Jahan, Congress has given the message that it does not want to support the Muslim leadership which raises its voice for the society. Only our party has the courage to raise the voice of the oppressed. Rest of the secular parties are busy in pleasing the Hindutva vote bank. AIMIM has fielded Shafaur Rahman Khan as its candidate from Okhla, who is in jail on Delhi riots charges. Due to this, the fight for Muslim dominated Okhla seat has become interesting.

What did Ariba Khan say?
Meanwhile, Congress candidate Areeba Khan said, “The people of Okhla want development. This is the only issue, there is only one strategy. The present government and MLAs have taken this area back by 20 years. The people of Okhla have given Amanatullah Khan a chance twice.” But he has completely failed. Arvind Kejriwal himself has said that his MLAs are immersed in corruption.

She said, “I will win with a very good margin. My father has been MLA from this seat many times and I hope that I will do better than him. Arvind Kejriwal has no credibility, his rhetoric has no effect here. Got it.”
