Karnataka Government Formation: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday (May 16) met party president Mallikarjun Kharge amid the race for the post of Chief Minister of Karnataka and discussed government formation in the state. Rahul Gandhi went to Kharge’s residence in Delhi and held a closed-door meeting with the Congress chief for about one and a half hours. Apart from him and Rahul Gandhi, party’s organization general secretary KC Venugopal and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Surjewala attended the meeting held at Kharge’s residence.
Congress President Kharge had a deep consultation with all the three observers of the party on Monday, but no decision could be taken. Kharge had appointed senior leaders Sushilkumar Shinde, Jitendra Singh and Deepak Babaria as observers to elect the leader of the Congress Legislature Party in Karnataka. The three observers had to talk to the newly elected MLAs of the party separately to know their opinion and then they submitted their report to Kharge. Both Siddaramaiah and State Congress President DK Shivakumar are contenders for the post of Chief Minister.

Siddaramaiah had come to Delhi on Monday itself. While DK Shivkumar has reached Delhi today. Shivkumar was supposed to come to Delhi on Monday itself, but citing stomach infection, he canceled his proposed trip. After reaching Delhi airport, he did not talk to the media and went away with folded hands on the questions of journalists. In Bengaluru, Shivakumar had said that the Congress party is my temple, the Congress party is our biggest strength, so no one needs to worry.
Will talk to Sonia Gandhi too
Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar will hold discussions with party chief Kharge as well as other senior leaders to form the government in Karnataka. Both the leaders are also expected to meet former party chief Rahul Gandhi. Sources said that former Congress president Sonia Gandhi will also be discussed on the choice of chief minister and government formation in Karnataka. Sonia Gandhi is returning from Shimla today.
The name of the CM of Karnataka can be announced on his return. karnataka assembly elections In 2014, the Congress won a landslide victory with 135 seats, while the BJP got 66 and the Janata Dal (Secular) led by former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda got 19 seats.
