Punjab Bypoll 2024: By-elections are to be held on four assembly seats in Punjab on November 13. Before this, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has suffered a major setback. Akali Dal leader and former minister Sohan Singh Thandal has joined BJP in Hoshiarpur.
According to PTI report, it is being said that BJP can give ticket to Sohan Singh from Chabbewal Assembly seat, because BJP has not yet announced the name of the candidate from here. Sohan Singh was given membership of the party by BJP in-charge of Punjab and former CM of Gujarat Vijay Rupani and former Union Minister Som Prakash.

On the other hand, Punjab BJP has issued a statement saying, “BJP has become stronger in Punjab.” Senior Akali Dal leader and former minister Sohan Singh Thandal has joined BJP. Punjab in-charge Vijay Rupani welcomed him into the party. On this occasion, former Punjab BJP President S Malik, former Minister Som Prakash, General Secretary Parminder Singh Brar and many BJP workers were present.
Sohan Singh has been elected MLA four times
Talking about Sohan Singh’s political career, he has already represented Chabbewal assembly seat. In 2012, he won the assembly elections on Akali Dal ticket. Before this, Sohan Singh had been MLA from Mahilur in 2007, 2002 and 1997. He has also been the Tourism Minister of Punjab between 2014 and 2017. Akali Dal has given him 2024 Lok Sabha elections He had given ticket from Hoshiarpur but he had to face defeat. Sohan Singh’s name is also surrounded in controversies.
