PM Modi on UCC: Prime Minister Modi is on a two-day visit to Gujarat. During this, on Thursday (31 October) he paid floral tributes at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat on the 149th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. A huge program was organized for the National Unity Day celebrations, which is celebrated every year on 31 October, Patel’s birth anniversary.
PM Modi said, “This time National Unity Day has brought a wonderful coincidence. On one hand today we are celebrating the festival of unity and on the other hand it is also the festival of Diwali.” He further said that the festival of lights not only “illuminates the country” but has also started connecting India with the rest of the world.
His remarks came a day after US President Joe Biden celebrated Diwali at the White House, in which more than 600 eminent Indian Americans were present. He said, “It (Diwali) is being celebrated as a national festival in many countries.”
