According to the Puranas, on the day of Ganesh Chaturthi, the birth anniversary of Ganapati, the son of Shankar and Parvati Mata, is celebrated. In Ganesh Utsav, one worships Bappa duly for 10 days, all his works are proved. On the other hand, according to a legend, Maharishi Ved Vyas had invoked Ganesha for the creation of Mahabharata. Vyas ji kept reciting verses and Ganapati ji went on writing the Mahabharata script for 10 days without stopping. In ten days, a layer of dust and soil got frozen on Ganesh ji. After 10 days i.e. on Anant Chaturdashi, Bappa bathed in Saraswati river and cleaned himself, after that Ganesh Utsav was celebrated for ten days.
