China has lodged a diplomatic protest with India over the recently established office of Taiwan’s Taipei Economic and Cultural Center (TECC) in Mumbai. China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said in response to a question on Thursday (17 October 2024), “There is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an inseparable part of China’s territory.”
“China firmly opposes all forms of official contact and communication between countries that maintain diplomatic relations with it and Taiwan, including the establishment of mutual representative offices,” he said. We have lodged a serious protest with the Indian side.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao said that the Indian side has made a serious political commitment to the principle of One-China and it serves as the political basis for China-India relations. “China urges the Indian side to strictly abide by its commitments and resolve Taiwan-related issues in a prudent and reasonable manner,” he said. India should not hold any kind of official talks with Taiwan and avoid hindering the process of improving China-India relations.
TECC in India opened a branch in Mumbai on Wednesday, taking the number of its offices in India to three. TECC also has offices in Delhi and Chennai.
