Manmohan Singh Death: Former Prime Minister of India and famous economist Dr. Manmohan Singh died on December 26, 2024 in Delhi. Manmohan Singh, who served as the 13th Prime Minister of India, played an important role in shaping India’s liberal economy. He is known as a person of calm nature but there came a time when he became very angry and refused to even listen to Sonia Gandhi.
Actually, US President George Bush was on a visit to India and on March 12, 2006, he was being given tremendous hospitality at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Under an agreement, America was going to supply uranium to India for peaceful purposes and give its consent. This is called the Indo-American nuclear agreement. But all this was not so easy. Parties like CPIM and CPM supporting the government were against this deal from the beginning.
Imprint of Left Front in the policies of UPA government
The imprint of the Left Front was clearly visible on almost every policy of the UPA government led by Manmohan Singh, but the nuclear deal was a matter of personal interest of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, not the Left, and when it moved forward, the Left parties started openly opposing it. Started putting pressure on the government to step back.
But Prime Minister Manmohan Singh made it a question of his personal prestige and refused to back down. As a result, there was a fierce war of words between the Left and the Congress for the next two years. Communist Party of India CPI leader AB Vardhan keeps threatening the government and it seems that the government is gone now or then. At that time, it was said that whenever Vardhan opened his mouth, both the government and the organization started trembling. Meanwhile, when journalists asked Vardhan how long the government is safe, he replied that it is safe till 5 pm but I don’t know about the future.
When Manmohan Singh did not even listen to Sonia Gandhi
The matter had become very heated. It is only said that then Congress and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi tried to intervene in this matter but PM Manmohan Singh was not ready to bow down on this matter. Manmohan Singh was so upset in the Congress meeting that he even threatened to resign on the issue of the nuclear deal. The result was that Congress had to bow before Manmohan Singh. This deal was finalized but the left parties withdrew their support.
