What is that story, let’s know.
Amrish was not the first choice for Mogambo
You will be surprised to know that Amrish Puri was never the first choice for the role of Mogambo. Even the character was offered to him when about 60 percent of the film’s shooting was completed. At that time the director of the film Shekhar Kapur offered him this role. Please tell that earlier the character of Mogambo was offered to Anupam Kher. He told in an interview that I was selected for the role of Mogambo, but after a month or two the filmmakers replaced me.
This thing came in the mind of Amrish Puri
Amrish Puri was shocked after getting the offer of Mogambo’s character. He wrote in his autobiography ‘Act of Life’, ‘When director Shekhar Kapur offered me this role, by then 60 per cent of the film’s shooting had been completed. I was a bit apprehensive as more than half of the film had been shot. This thought also came to my mind that he remembered me now.
When the sun could not be seen for 20 days
Amrish Puri wrote, ‘Shekhar Kapur gave me complete freedom during the shooting of Mr. India. He had said that Mogambo’s character should be like Hitler. In such a situation, the idea of this character was taken from the Hollywood film Staring Clark Gable. During that time the shooting schedule was so busy that I could not see the sunlight for about 20 days.
