According to the report, a total of 47,15,906 accounts were banned from March 1 to March 31. Of these, 16,59,385 accounts were removed by WhatsApp on its own without receiving any complaints from users. The report says that in March 2023, WhatsApp received a total of 4,720 complaints based on which action was taken against 585 accounts. WhatsApp said that we take action on all complaints, provided it is not a duplicate of the previous complaint. Based on the complaint, an account is banned or a previously banned account is reinstated.

As per Information Technology regulations, large digital platforms with more than 5 million users are required to issue compliance reports every month. In this report, they have to give details of the complaints received and the action taken on them. There have been frequent complaints about the spread of hate statements, apart from fake news and misinformation, on social media platforms. To curb this, the government has recently implemented the GAC system where users can file online complaints against these forums.
