Jharkhand Forest News: In Jharkhand, between 2021 and 2023, the forest area has increased to a total of 79,716 square kilometers with a slight increase of 44.64 square kilometers (0.5 percent). This information has been given in the India Forest Status Report (ISFR) 2023 released by the Central Government on Saturday. Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupendra Yadav released the report at the Forest Research Institute in Dehradun. The report mentions a nationwide increase of 1,445 square kilometers in total forest and tree cover from 2021.
The forest area in Jharkhand was 23,721.14 square kilometers in 2021, which increased to 23,765.78 square kilometers in 2023. Now, out of the total geographical area of the state, 29.81 percent is forest area. Jharkhand’s growth is modest compared to neighboring states. West Bengal saw an increase of only 0.46 sq km, while Chhattisgarh (95.15 sq km), Odisha (277.61 sq km) and Bihar (151.66 sq km) showed better progress.
There has been a decrease of 47.92 square kilometers
However, the report indicated some positive developments in Jharkhand, where very dense forest (VDF) areas increased by 34.3 square kilometers while moderately dense forest (MDF) areas decreased by 47.92 square kilometers. An increase of 58.26 square kilometers was observed in open forest areas from 2021.
What was said in the report
The report said the total forest area in Jharkhand now stands at 23,765.78 square kilometres, which includes 2,635.35 square kilometers of very dense forest area, 9,640.99 square kilometers of moderately dense forest area and 11,489.44 square kilometers of open forest area.
