When there are two trains on a track, the Kavach system is automatically activated.

What is Kavach System? A terrible train accident took place on Friday in Balasore, Odisha, in which three trains collided with each other. Of these three trains (Odisha train accident), one was a goods train while two were passenger trains. Hundreds of people have died in this painful accident. After the accident, everyone is trying to know that how such a big train accident happened. Meanwhile, there is also talk about the Kavach System of the Indian Railways, whose demo was shown for some time by the Railways. Let us tell you what is the armor system and how it prevents train accidents.

A high-level team has been formed to investigate the train accident in Balasore, Odisha. In the initial investigation, it has been found that the railway’s armor system was not installed in the route in which this train accident took place. If the track had an armor system, then perhaps such a big train accident would not have happened.

what is armor system

Let us tell you that the Kavach system is an automatic train protection system of the Railways. It is a set of many electronic devices. In order not to become a victim of a train accident, radio frequency identification devices are installed in trains, tracks, railway signal systems and at a distance of one kilometer at every station. In this system, other components are connected through ultra high radio frequency.

How does the armor system work

If a loco pilot jumps a signal, the Kavach system gets activated. As soon as the Kavach system is activated, an alert is sent to the pilot of the train. Not only this, the armor system also takes control of the brakes of the train. If the Kavach system detects that another train is coming on the track, it also stops the movement of the first train.

The track and route on which the Kavach system of the Indian Railways is installed, also monitors the movement of the train running on that track. Let us tell you in simple language that this system is activated when two trains are coming on one track. The armor system stops both the trains at a certain distance.

Let us tell you that this armor system has been prepared by Indian Railways with the help of Research Design and Standards Organization. Railways started work on this armor system in 2012. Initially the name of this project was Train Collision Avoidance System. This armor system was designed by the Railways to achieve the zero accident target of the train.
