Manipur Violence: The situation in Manipur was discussed in detail on Saturday (June 24) in an all-party meeting convened by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. During this, many opposition parties requested to send an all-party delegation to the state. However, the government has not made any commitment regarding this.
News agency PTI gave this information quoting sources. Congress and some other parties demanded the removal of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, while some opposition parties asked to impose President’s rule in Manipur. According to sources, the government emphasized that it was making all efforts to restore normalcy. In fact, leaders of various political parties including BJP, Congress, West Bengal Chief Minister Trinamool Congress and Left parties took part in the meeting.

According to Patra, Home Minister Shah also said in the meeting that since the beginning of the violence in Manipur, there would not have been a single day when he had not spoken to PM Modi about the situation or the Prime Minister had not given instructions. So far, about 120 people have died and more than three thousand people have been injured in the violence that broke out on May 3 between the Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur.

Describing the meeting as a formality, the Congress said that the Center should take serious initiative to restore peace in the state and the resignation of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh should be taken immediately. Party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh also said that PM Modi should break his silence on this matter.
Former Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, who attended the meeting on behalf of the Congress, said that peace is not possible with Biren Singh as the CM. He claimed that he was given a few minutes in the meeting, while he had asked for more time to present his point.

Apart from this, Union Ministers Prahlad Joshi, Nityanand Rai and Ajay Kumar Mishra, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla and Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka also attended the meeting.
