Arjun Ram Meghwal Remarks: About a year before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, a shocking change was seen in the Union Council of Ministers on Thursday (May 18). Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal was made the Minister of Law and Justice (Independent Charge).
At the same time, Kiren Rijiju was removed from the post of Law and Justice Minister and made Earth Science Minister. Apart from this, Satyapal Singh Baghel, who has been working as the Minister of State in the Law Ministry till now, has been shifted from here and made the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare.
‘I will do my best to live up to the trust’
Arjun Meghwal is a Member of Parliament from Bikaner Lok Sabha seat of Rajasthan. After being made Law Minister (Independent Charge), Meghwal assumed office on Thursday (May 18). Regarding the new responsibility, Minister Meghwal told ABP News, “Any new post is there, it is a little challenging.” On this occasion, I express my gratitude to the Prime Minister that he has given me this responsibility. I will try my best to live up to their trust.
On assuming the responsibility of Law Ministry, Meghwal said that his top priority would be to provide speedy justice to all the people. With this, he said that there is no conflict between the government and the judiciary. Speaking to the media in Delhi, Meghwal said, “The relationship between the executive and the judiciary is cordial and will continue to be cordial and constitutional.”
Political career of Arjun Meghwal
Meghwal’s political career formally started in 2009. Taking voluntary retirement from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 2009, Meghwal won the first election from Bikaner Lok Sabha on a BJP ticket and there was no looking back after that.
He was elected MP for the second time in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Meghwal, who was the Minister of State for Finance and Company Affairs, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation in the Central Government, was elected MP from Bikaner for the third consecutive time in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Parliament often comes by bicycle
Meghwal has got a car from the central government, but he often comes to the Parliament House by bicycle. He is fond of songs of Bagdi dialect. He has a distinct identity with his traditional attire Dhoti Kurta and Rajasthani Turban.
Meghwal is counted among PM Modi’s trusted leaders and very few people know that he started his career as a telephone operator in Bikaner several decades before reaching this top post.
Background of Arjun Ram Meghwal
Born in a simple Dalit family in Kishmidesar village near Bikaner, Meghwal’s father is a weaver by profession. Meghwal was married to Pana Devi at the age of 13, but earned his LLB and MBA degrees while helping his weaver father.
After completing his studies, Meghwal started preparing for competitive exams. He got the post of telephone operator in the India Post and Telegraph Department. He entered politics informally when he contested the election of the Telephone Traffic Association and was elected general secretary.
While working as a telephone operator, Meghwal cleared the Rajasthan State Administrative Service exam in his second attempt. He got this place in the top echelon of bureaucrats when he was promoted as an Indian Administrative Service officer and became the District Magistrate of Churu in Rajasthan.
