What did All India Muslim Personal Law Board say on Uniform Civil Code?


Lok Sabha Elections 2024: The discussion about Uniform Civil Code is gaining momentum in the country. It has also been a part of the manifesto of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). However, the BJP in power at the Center has not been able to implement it. After the public notice issued by the Law Commission of India, the buzz about it has started increasing once again. A response has come from the All India Muslim Personal Law Board on the matter. According to the news agency PTI, party spokesperson SQR Ilyas has said, “In the year 2016, it was the Law Commission which had said that there should be no talk on Uniform Civil Code for the next 10 years. In such a situation, why has the Law Commission changed its stand now? BJP wants to use it as an issue in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. As far as UCC is concerned, the country does not need it.

Law commission started the process

The Law Commission has started the process of holding consultations with the general public on the Uniform Civil Code. The Law Commission has issued a notice saying that the 22nd Law Commission has once again decided to seek the views of people and recognized religious organizations at a wide level on the Uniform Civil Code. Interested people and organizations interested in this can give their views to the Law Commission within a period of 30 days from the date of issue of the notice.
