Israel Hamas War: Israel admitted on Tuesday (24 December) that it had assassinated former Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh in Iran’s capital Tehran. Along with this, he has also warned to destroy the leadership of Houthi rebels in Yemen. News agency AFP quoted Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz as saying that we will attack the Houthis hard. We will destroy their leadership – as we did with Haniyeh, (Yahya) Sinwar and (Hassan) Nasrallah in Tehran, Gaza and Lebanon, we will do the same in Hodeida and Sanaa.
Israeli Defense Minister Katz further said in his statement, “Whoever raises his hand against Israel, his hand will be cut off.”
Israel has claimed responsibility for Haniyeh’s death, about 5 months after his murder on July 31 this year. Earlier, the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had never accepted the murder of the former Hamas chief. But Hamas and Iran were continuously blaming Israel.

How was Ismail Haniyeh murdered?
Haniyeh was killed in an explosion in a guesthouse in Tehran on July 31. Israeli operatives reportedly planted the explosives weeks before Haniyeh’s arrival to attend the inauguration of Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claimed that Haniyeh was killed using a “short-range projectile” launched from outside his residence. Tehran has also accused the US of supporting Israel’s operation. Haniyeh’s killing raised fears of an all-out war between Iran and Israel in the region, prompting the US to step down after threats from Tehran and its allies, Hamas and Hezbollah. Additional fighter jets and naval warships had to be deployed.
