In this context, Germany has also announced its support to the new Israeli government. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday discussed the possibility of cooperating with Syria’s new leaders following the ouster of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

“We have agreed that we are ready to cooperate with the new leadership on the basis of fundamental human rights and the protection of ethnic and religious minorities,” the German government and the French government said in a statement. The German government said the two leaders agreed to work together to strengthen the EU’s commitment to Syria, particularly by supporting inclusive political processes in Syria in coordination with partners in the Middle East.
