Karnataka Assembly Elections 2023: Preparations for the assembly elections to be held in Karnataka after about a week are being done by all the parties as well as by the Election Commission (ECI). After announcing the option of vote-from-home for the first time in Karnataka, the Election Commission has started this campaign from Sunday (April 30).
The Election Commission has made arrangements across the state for the elderly above 80 years of age and specially-abled people to vote at their homes. A 5-member team of Election Commission and polling agents will visit his house and get him to vote. At the same time, all the voters coming in this range will be able to vote through this process till May 6.
How will voting be done in ‘Vote from Home’
Voters of Karnataka who have opted for vote-from-home. They will get all the facility of voting while staying at their home and they can vote through ballot paper of their own free will. The Election Commission has appointed a 5-member team of polling agents to make them conduct malpractice-free polling. In which two polling officers, one observer and party agents along with police team will also be present on the spot. After the polling is over, the ballot box will be kept in a secure strong room.

To make this whole process transparent, a videographer has also been appointed by the Election Commission, so that videography of this whole process can be done. Depending on the constituencies, different teams in each ward will take the ballot papers to the homes of these individuals and collect their votes. The polling agents of the candidates will be informed in advance. So that they will also be present during the voting process to ensure maximum transparency.
Less than 5% availed it
According to the voter list of Karnataka, by March 2023, there are 12.2 lakh people in the age group of 80 to 99 in the state. At the same time, the number of specially-abled people is 5.6 lakh in the state. With this, if we look at the figures of people above 100 years, then there are more than 16 thousand voters here. In which more than 8,500 senior citizens and more than 100 people with physical disability (Divyang) have enrolled for ‘Vote from Home’ in Bengaluru. However, despite this, less than 5% of the target population has taken advantage of it.
Voting for all 224 assembly seats in Karnataka is to be held after about 10 days i.e. on 10th May, three days after which the election results will be declared on 13th.
