Hate Speech Case: Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh has termed the statement of BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur as a case of hate speech and he is going to approach the Supreme Court regarding this matter. He said that what Pragya Thakur has said is clearly a case of hate speech and a case of hate speech should be filed against her. In fact, Jairam Ramesh alleges that BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur’s remarks at a function in Shivamogga, Karnataka is a clear example of hate speech.
He further said that Ramesh said that he would file a case against Pragya Thakur in the Supreme Court as the police in Karnataka would not act against the BJP MP. Karnataka is currently ruled by the BJP and assembly elections are to be held in the state early next year.
Speaking to PTI, Jairam Ramesh has said that the remarks made by BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur in Karnataka is a clear example of hate speech and I will move the Supreme Court against her for making such remarks.
‘Comment that divides society’
He said Thakur’s remarks clearly sought to divide the society, while claiming that the local police would not act against him since the BJP was in power in the southern state.
Thakur said that Hindus have the right to reply to those who attacked him and his dignity because he talked about the killing of Hindu activists. He called upon the Hindus to at least keep their knives sharp in their homes, as everyone has the right to defend themselves.

He said, “Keep weapons in your homes and if nothing else, at least keep the knives for cutting vegetables sharp….. don’t know what situation will come when….everyone has the right to self-defense. If someone intrudes, it is our home and attacks us, it is our right to give a befitting reply.
