Umar Khalid Bail: Umar Khalid, accused in the case related to Delhi riots, got a big relief from the court on Wednesday (December 18). Karkardooma Court in Delhi granted him interim bail of seven days. The court has granted interim bail to Umar Khalid from 28 December to 3 January. Umar Khalid had sought interim bail for 10 days to attend the wedding of his cousin brother and sister.
In early December, Umar Khalid and Meeran Haider had also sought bail on the grounds of equality, delay in trial and long imprisonment. In this case, the police had sought time to present the reply. 53 people were killed in the 2020 Delhi riots and more than 700 people were injured. After this incident, Umar Khalid was arrested on 13 September 2020. He has been in jail for more than four years.

Umar Khalid had also filed a bail petition in the Supreme Court but the court advised him to approach the lower court. After this Umar withdrew his petition. Khalid has been charged under IPC, 1967 Arms Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Apart from this, charges have also been registered under various sections of IPC.
Sharjeel Imam has not got bail yet
Till now, several rounds of hearing have taken place in Omar’s case and many times the petitions have been rejected and sometimes the judges recused themselves from the hearing. Another accused in Delhi riots, Sharjeel Imam, has not been able to get bail. He had also approached the Supreme Court but since the case was pending in the High Court, the bail hearing could not take place in the Supreme Court.
