UGC has changed the rules, now you will be able to become a teacher in the university only after passing this exam

UGC’s New Rule For Assistant Professor Post: To be appointed as a teacher in a university or college, it is now necessary to pass any one of these exams. Without this, the appointment will not be given. UGC i.e. University Grants Commission has changed the rules of appointment of teachers. For this, it is not even necessary for the candidate to have a PhD. However, he must have passed any one exam out of NET, SET or SLET. Only after this qualification, the candidate can get appointment as Assistant Professor in Universities and Colleges.

The commission has amended the ‘University Grants Commission (Minimum Qualifications for Appointment of Teachers and other Academic Staff in Universities and Colleges and Maintenance of Standards in Higher Education) Regulations, 2018’. The Commission says that only candidates who pass any one of the National Eligibility Test / State Eligibility Test or State Level Eligibility Test will be considered eligible to teach in Higher Education Institutes.

Will be applicable from 1st July

This new rule has come into force from the first date of this month i.e. 1st of July. Now universities and colleges will have to follow these rules to appoint teachers. These rules have been called – ‘The University Grants Commission (Minimum Qualifications for Appointment of Teachers and other Academic Staff in Universities and Colleges and Other Measures for the Maintenance of Standards in Higher Education) (Second Amendment) Regulations, 2023.

PhD became optional

After the introduction of the new rule, PhD has become optional. That is, even without PhD, if one has passed any one of these exams, then one can be appointed as Assistant Professor. But only doing PhD will not get this job. UGC has given information in this regard by tweeting and has issued guidelines related to the appointment of Assistant Professor.
