Supreme Court on Sharad Pawar Plea: The fight that started after the split of the Nationalist Congress Party i.e. NCP has once again reached the Supreme Court. A hearing regarding this matter was held in the Supreme Court on Wednesday (13 November 2024). During the hearing, the court advised the Ajit Pawar group to stand on their feet.
Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for Sharad Pawar, while sharing some material-posters as well as social media posts, told the court that these have allegedly been published in violation of the Supreme Court order. He said that NCP (Ajit Pawar) candidate Amol Mitkari has used Sharad Pawar in his poster. However, senior advocate Balbir Singh, appearing for Ajit Pawar, refuted the allegations and claimed that the material had been “tampered with”.
Will villagers be affected by posts made on social media?
While the court reprimanded the Ajit Pawar faction, Justice Surya Kant asked Singhvi, “Do you think the people of Maharashtra do not know about the rift you guys are in?”, Do the people of rural Maharashtra care about the posts made on social media? Will be affected by. On this Singhvi said, “Today India is different, whatever we see here in Delhi, most of the rural people also see it.” He said that when the Supreme Court has given any direction, the other party is bound to follow it.
‘Your ideological differences with Sharad Pawar, you have formed a separate party’
Turning to Ajit Pawar’s side, Justice Surya Kant said, “Whether it is an old video or a new one, you have ideological differences with Sharad Pawar and you are fighting against him by forming a separate party… Then you should stand on your feet. We should try to be.” The bench clearly told Ajit Pawar to instruct his party members not to use pictures and videos of Sharad Pawar during the election campaign. The bench also said that voters are intelligent enough to understand any confusion, so do not do so.
Justice Surya Kant took a dig by taking Trump’s name
While hearing this case, Justice Surya Kant also quipped several times. Looking at an advertisement of Ajit Pawar group for campaign, Justice Surya Kant said that one advertisement is just below (Donald) Trump, which looks quite impressive. Hearing this, NCP Sharad Pawar faction’s lawyer Singhvi said laughingly, “Thankfully he has not filed the petition here.” On this the court said that we will not comment about other jurisdictions.
