If you’re a fan of science fiction horror, chances are you’ve seen at least one movie in the Alien franchise that began with Ridley Scott’s Alien (1979). Remember Titanic Alien in the movie? Well, that same alien may now give you more cause for concern, in the form of a banking trojan simply called Xenomorph.
According to a report, Xenomorph is a form of banking Trojan dropper malware targeted at Designed to ‘drop’ a malicious code onto the device. The mode of delivery of this trojan on any Android smartphone is the same as operating from the Alien franchisee. In the film, the Xenomorph hid inside the spaceship and slowly began killing the crew. Similarly, hackers are using other apps to hide Xenomorph Banking Trojan.
Case in Point: Fast Cleaner App on Google Play Store. According to the report, Xenomorph malware was hidden inside the Fast Cleaner app, which is said to optimize your smartphone by increasing RAM by cleaning junk files. For now the Xenomorph Banking Trojan has been found to target Android users in Europe.
According to the report, the Xenomorph malware is still new, but it says that it is in a similar form to the Dropper malware.
How Xenomorph malware attacks your Android smartphone
According to security researchers Whenever users open a target app, the malware places an overlay window on your smartphone screen. Users unaware of the window then interact with it, allowing hackers to obtain the data that is being fed to the overlay screen. With an overlay attack, hackers can steal your banking information and login credentials. According to the report, banks in Spain, Portugal, Italy and Belgium are included in the target list. Some crypto wallets and email apps have also been targeted.
