There was a lot of chaos during voting in Manipur, now voting will be held again at 11 polling booths.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Lok Sabha Elections After violence at polling booths in Manipur in the first phase of 2024, an order has been given to cancel the voting of 11 booths on the seat of Interior Manipur. The State Election Commission has said that re-polling will be conducted at these 11 booths. Voting will be conducted again at these 11 booths on Monday (April 22).

During the first phase of voting on Friday (April 19), incidents of violence were reported at many places in Manipur. Earlier, during the voting for two Lok Sabha seats of Manipur on Friday, Congress had alleged election rigging and booth capturing and demanded re-polling at 47 polling stations.

More than 68 percent voting was recorded in violence-hit Manipur amid incidents of firing, intimidation and EVM vandalism. Voting was held in the first phase for two Lok Sabha seats of Manipur. On the day of the first phase of voting, the news of Manipur violence was in the headlines throughout the day. There was firing in the polling booth there.

Congress had demanded re-polling

32 constituencies of the sixty-member Manipur Assembly fall under the ‘Inner Manipur’ Lok Sabha seat, while 28 assembly constituencies are part of the ‘Outer Manipur’ parliamentary constituency. Manipur unit president of Congress K. Meghchandra said that the party has lodged a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer of Manipur and has demanded re-polling at 36 polling stations of ‘Inner Manipur’ constituency and 11 polling stations of ‘Outer Manipur’ constituency.

Meghchandra told reporters, ‘Unknown armed miscreants have been threatening Congress candidate Angomcha Bimol Akoizam and the party election agent for the past few days.’ He said, ‘We have filed a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer of the state for re-polling at 36 polling stations in Inner Manipur and 11 polling stations in Outer Manipur.’
