ottawa: Brampton Triveni Temple, Canada has canceled the proposed Indian Commerce Camp program. Because there is still a threat of attack on Hindu temples. In this regard, Canadian police had also warned them of the “extremely high and imminent” risk of violent protests. The life certificate program organized by the Consulate General of India in Toronto was to be held on November 17 at the temple premises. But now this program has been cancelled.
The program was part of a series of camps organized by the Consulate for issuance of life certificates for pension purposes. On Monday, temple officials said the event was canceled “due to official intelligence from Peel Regional Police indicating there is an extremely high and imminent risk of violent protests”. “We must take the appropriate decision to cancel the event to ensure the safety of Brampton Triveni Temple devotees, community visitors and the general public,” temple officials said in a statement.
Program canceled after threat of violence
Temple authorities urged Peel police to address threats being circulated against the temple and to guarantee the safety of the Canadian Hindu community and the general public. The cancellation of the event comes nearly a week after protesters carrying Khalistani flags scuffled with devotees at a Hindu Sabha temple and disrupted an event jointly organized by temple authorities and the Indian Consulate in Brampton. Last week, the Consulate General of India in Toronto had said it was canceling some of its scheduled commerce camps after Canadian security officials expressed their inability to provide minimum security to its organisers.
