India-Canada Relations: The Canadian government has once again been exposed in front of India. Canada has faced embarrassment over the case related to the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The statement from the Canadian government came when the Globe and Mail newspaper accused India of the murder of Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
Hardeep Singh Nijjar was a Khalistani supporter and accused of involvement in terrorist activities in India. He was murdered in June 2023 in British Columbia, Canada. On the matter, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had accused Indian agencies of being involved in the murder of Nijjar. This statement increased the tension in India-Canada relations.

India had completely rejected the allegations of murder of Nijjar made by Canada. India had said that Canada has failed to curb Khalistani activities in its country.
The Globe and Mail report claimed that Canada has evidence linking Indian officials to criminal activities. The newspaper made allegations against many big people including the Indian PM without any evidence. Now after this report, the Canadian government has clarified that they do not have any evidence that directly incriminates Indian officials in this case.

Tension between the two countries has increased after Trudeau’s statement against India. As a result, India suspended trade talks with Canada and reduced diplomatic activities. This also affected the ongoing trade agreements between the two countries.
