Steve Smith, while talking to the media after the end of the second day’s play, had said, “It seemed as if Jaiswal said yes and ran away, but Virat Kohli asked him to go back. It’s just that, but sorry.” I have never seen or heard anything more than this.”
This is the same incident on which Irfan Pathan and Sanjay Manjrekar clashed with each other while discussing on live TV. On one hand, Irfan gave his opinion in defense of Virat, while Manjrekar put the entire blame for Jaiswal’s dismissal on Kohli. Sunil Gavaskar has also given a statement on this subject and said that if Virat wanted, he could have scored runs. Overall, the cricket world is divided into two groups on this subject.
What is the matter after all?
The incident of Yashasvi Jaiswal being run out happened in the 41st over of the Indian innings, when his partnership with Virat Kohli was 102 runs. Jaiswal ran away as soon as he bowled the ball towards mid-on, while Virat Kohli took a step or two forward but then refused to run away. Jaiswal did not see Virat’s signal and reached the non-striking end while running. But by then it was too late because by the time Jaiswal went back, wicketkeeper Alex Carey had blown the bails.
