The doors of Gangotri Dham will be closed from today for winter, the Dham decorated with flowers.


Gangotri Dham Yatra: The doors of Gangotri Dham, one of the Chardhams of Uttarakhand, will be closed for winter today on the occasion of Annakoot festival. Gangotri Panch Temple Committee has made complete preparations for closing the doors. Gangotri Dham temple has been decorated with flower garlands. According to the auspicious time, the doors of Gangotri Dham will be closed today at 12:14 pm in Abhijeet Muhurta.

After the closure of the doors, devotees from India and abroad will be able to have darshan of Mother Ganga in her winter stay at Mukhimath (Mukhwa) for the next six months. Ganga ji’s doli will stay at Chandeshwari Devi Temple (Makendey Temple) today after the closure of the doors. On the morning of 3rd November, Doli will leave from the temple for Mukhwa village with rituals.

Devotees will visit here for six months
According to Shri Panch Gangotri Temple Committee Secretary Suresh Semwal, the process of closing the doors of Gangotri Dham was started with the Deepotsav on Friday. After the closure of the doors, the Utsav idol of Mother Ganga will be brought to the winter halt Mukhba with a doli yatra. Devotees will be able to have darshan of Mother Ganga in her winter stay at Mukhimath (Mukhwa) for the next six months.

According to reports, during the Yatra period, 15 lakh 21 thousand 752 pilgrims have reached both the Dhams till Friday evening, in which 7 lakh 10 thousand devotees reached Yamunotri Dham and 8 lakh 11 thousand pilgrims reached Gangotri Dham. The doors of Yamunotri Dham will also be closed tomorrow on the occasion of Bhaiya Dooj on 3rd November in Abhijeet Muhurta at 12.03 pm on Anuradha Nakshatra of Capricorn ascendant. This tradition in this last phase of Chardham Yatra is an important part of the cultural heritage of the Himalayas.
