Karnataka government started a new initiative for women
Labor Minister Santosh Lad said that we are reviewing the proposal and have scheduled a meeting with the members of the committee. Its purpose is to support women in the workplace, as women have to face physical and emotional ups and downs throughout their lives. Getting this leave will allow women to choose when they want leave. Lad will meet the committee members and discuss the recommendations, after which they will be put up for consultation with the public, companies and others.
Know in which states the period leave plan is in place?
3 states already have a plan for period leave. If this plan is passed, Karnataka will be the fourth state to provide period leave after Bihar, Kerala and Odisha. Meanwhile, the Karnataka government has formed an 18-member committee to draft a bill keeping in mind the welfare of working women.
However, the Bihar government introduced its policy in 1992, under which women are given two days of menstrual leave every month. In 2023, Kerala decided to provide period leave to female students in all universities and institutions, as well as maternity leave of up to 60 days to female students above the age of 18. While, in August, the Odisha government introduced a one-day period leave for women workers in the state government and private sector.
