Jammu Kashmir News: Opposition continues against the ropeway project being built by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board in Katra, Jammu. The duration of the ongoing strike from December 25 has been extended. Vaishno Devi Sangharsh Samiti has now announced to extend the period of Katra Bandh till 30th December. The condition of three agitators sitting on hunger strike in protest against the ropeway project deteriorated. All three have been admitted to the hospital as their condition worsened. Let us tell you that earlier Vaishno Devi Sangharsh Samiti had called for a 72-hour Katra bandh from December 25. When the demands were not met, the committee on Friday announced to extend the Katra bandh for another 72 hours.
Police have arrested many leaders of Vaishno Devi Sangharsh Samiti, which is leading the bandh. The arrest of the leaders has further fueled the anger of the agitators. Police have arrested about two dozen leaders under various sections. The family members are also on hunger strike in protest against the arrest. The condition of three youths who were on hunger strike deteriorated on Friday. All three were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Business establishments will not open on December 30
All three have been admitted to the sub-district hospital of Katra. Vaishno Devi Sangharsh Samiti called a meeting on Friday. In the meeting, it was agreed to extend the duration of the strike for another 72 hours. Now Katra will remain closed till 30th December. No business establishment will open in Katra during the bandh. Horses, stooges and palanquins will also not ply on the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra route. Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sangharsh Samiti alleges that the ropeway project will take away the employment of about 40,000 people in Katra and the importance of the pilgrimage of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi will also be lost.
