Elon Musk: The clouds of layoffs from leading electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla do not seem to be clearing. Tesla CEO Elon Musk had recently announced that he is going to lay off 10 percent of his company’s global workforce. But, this figure now seems to be much bigger. Many reports have claimed that about 20 percent of Tesla employees will lose their jobs. This weekend, Tesla has informed some more employees through email about the larger scope of layoffs.
Layoff of 6700 employees was announced in America
Last month, Tesla disbanded its EV charging department. The company had shown the way out to two senior officials along with their team of around 500 people. Based on information received from people with knowledge of the matter, Electrek has claimed that layoffs have also been made in the software, service and engineering departments. These layoff emails were sent to people over the weekend. Tesla said last month that it would lay off about 6700 employees from offices in Texas, California, Nevada and New York.
Layoffs due to declining sales
This layoff in Tesla is being done due to falling sales. Apart from this, Tesla has also been adversely affected due to challenges from other companies. It has to fight a price war with various companies. Tesla had also recently reduced the prices of many of its models. Experts believe that at present the company’s entire focus is on autonomous driving software, robo taxi and humanoid robot Optimus. Elon Musk wants to stop other expenses and invest money on these teams.
Tesla is working on bringing new models
Tesla may have to spend approximately $350 million for this large-scale layoff. The company has also lost many old partners. These include Drew Baglino, Rohan Patel, Rebecca Tinucci and Daniel Ho. Tesla had told that the company is currently working on bringing new models. For this, it will use only the platform and production line currently in use. With this step she will be able to control her expenses.
