Peshawar: At least one Frontier Corps soldier and two government officials were killed by unidentified men riding a motorcycle in two separate terrorist incidents in northwest Pakistan’s restive province Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday. Police said both the incidents took place in Dera Ismail Khan district of the province. Attacks on security personnel have increased manifold in the southern districts of the province in the last few months. Gunmen ambushed a government vehicle at the Yarak toll plaza in the district, killing two officials and injuring two other officials of the Customs Intelligence Department.
A police officer said that in both the cases the attackers fled from the scene. While no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, police have registered two separate cases and started investigating the incidents, the official said. This is the second attack on a Customs Intelligence Department vehicle in the last four days. In an earlier attack, five Customs Department officials were shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the district.
Two teenagers killed in landmine blast in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province
At least two teenagers were killed and another injured when a landmine exploded in Pakistan’s restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Sunday. The local police gave this information. The teenagers were searching for mushrooms in the hills of Tirah Valley in Khyber district when one of them stepped on a landmine, causing a massive explosion. Police said that one teenager died on the spot while the other died in the hospital. Another 16-year-old teenager, who was seriously injured in the blast, is being treated in hospital. A police officer said that investigation into the incident has been started. (Language)
