Telangana Governor approves prosecution against KTR, investigation into Formula E race scam intensifies

Formula E Race Scam: Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma met Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president and former minister K.T. Approval has been given to prosecute Rama Rao (KTR). This case pertains to alleged financial irregularities worth Rs 55 crore in the Formula E race to be held in Hyderabad in February 2023.

This approval has been given after the request of the state Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). The ACB has alleged that Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) funds were transferred to the race organizers without proper approval. It is alleged that the then MAUD Secretary Arvind Kumar made this transfer on the verbal instructions of KTR, which is a violation of financial rules.

Instructions to ACB to start investigation

After the Governor’s approval, Chief Minister A. Telangana Cabinet meeting was held on December 16, 2024 under the chairmanship of Revanth Reddy. In this, Chief Secretary A. ACB was directed to initiate investigation into Shanti Kumari under Section 17A of the Anti-Corruption Act.

Notice can be sent to Jaguar TCS Racing Company

The investigation will also examine a second agreement signed in October 2023, which proposed holding another Formula E race in February 2024. It is alleged that the approval of the Election Commission and the Finance Department was ignored in this agreement, due to which the code of conduct was violated. Notices are also likely to be sent to companies like Greenco, Mahindra Racing and Jaguar TCS Racing involved in organizing the race.

KTR said the allegations were politically motivated

Responding to this development, K. T. Rama Rao called these allegations politically motivated and said that they would be faced legally. He has raised questions on the veracity of the allegations.

There may be a big change in the politics of the state

The Formula E race scam has become the center of discussion on the political scene of Telangana. The present Congress led government is emphasizing on transparency and accountability in this matter. The ACB investigation is expected to progress at a fast pace, which can bring major changes in the politics of the state.
