TATA Motors: Tata Motors expects that the share of CNG cars in its total sales will increase to 20 percent in the next three to five years. A top company official believes that more and more customers of entry-level petrol and diesel cars will prefer to buy CNG vehicles in the future.
With CNG, the share of electric vehicles will also increase
The Mumbai-based auto company is also excited about the electric vehicle segment. The company believes that in the next few years, about 20 percent of its sales will be from electric vehicles.
This is what a Tata Motors official believes
Speaking to the analysts, Shailesh Chandra, President – Passenger Vehicles and Electric Vehicles, Tata Motors, said, “I think CNG is a segment that is going to grow in the coming years. It will replace petrol. The demand for CNG vehicles will increase due to the rising cost of petrol.” Chandra said, “So the company sees a strong future for it. This is the reason that today CNG stations are expanding rapidly in the country. Its reach is increasing.” The remaining part is from electric vehicles.
sales of petrol vehicles will fall
“In the next three to five years, petrol will probably come down to around 50 per cent, CNG will go down to 20 per cent…Diesel will come down to about 10 per cent,” he said. Our target for EVs is 20 per cent.
CNG in SUV will be difficult
Chandra said, “I think it will be difficult to have CNG in an SUV. Hence, the reach of CNG in this section will be limited. But if we look at the economics of CNG and petrol, it will have some reach in the SUV segment as well. But it will not be like entry level.
The company will also focus on hybrid cars
When asked whether the company will also focus on hybrid cars, Chandra said, “We have taken a decision about EVs after much deliberation.” “Some companies have thought of hybrids and they are providing such vehicles. They are doing this to meet the requirement of Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE).
