A senior official of the organization’s Justice Ministry said on Monday that the Taliban is in constant touch with the Hindus and Sikhs of Afghanistan who were forced to flee and their homes were taken over by the warlords. A report in The Hindu said that the Taliban representative has confirmed this in a written statement.
Taliban in contact with those whose land was grabbed
Taliban spokesman Hafiz Barkatullah Rasooli said, “Technical boards under the supervision of the commission at the center and in the provinces are in constant touch with the Hindu and Sikh compatriots whose lands have been grabbed. The entire process is to identify and verify the grabbed lands.” After identification and verification of the properties, they will be returned to the members of the Hindu and Sikh communities.
Narendra Singh Khalsa returned from Canada
Suhail Shaheen, head of the Taliban’s political wing, told The Hindu last week that the organization had formed a commission with Justice Minister Abdul Hakim Sharai to restore the property of members of two minority communities who were deprived of their homes. An announcement said that Narendra Singh Khalsa, a former member of parliament in Kabul, had returned to Afghanistan from Canada after assurances from the Taliban that his rights would now be respected.
A month ago a delegation had met
Rasooli said that a large delegation of Hindus and Sikhs from Afghanistan had held a meeting with Justice Minister Shari a month ago. In this the delegation presented its demands before the Taliban administration. Here, the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal had said last week that India considers the new decision of the Taliban to restore the property of minority communities as a positive development.

The Taliban say Hindus and Sikhs played a vital role in maintaining the country’s commercial ties with the region and that they served a unique purpose in Afghanistan’s urban centers until the 1980s. Political disturbances prompted them to immigrate.
