Uproar over Pakistan minister’s statement
A threatening statement by Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah to target Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) bases inside Afghanistan remains in the news. Minister Rana Sanaullah said in an interview with a Pakistani news channel that “Islamabad may target the TTP in Afghanistan if Kabul does not act to eliminate them.”
Taliban’s answer to Pakistan
The Taliban responded to Pakistan by saying, “Afghanistan is not without a master or without an heir and, as always, is ready to defend its national and regional security and its independence.” The statement said, “Any aggression against Afghanistan will be given a befitting reply. We are fully prepared to respond to any attack.”
Foreign Minister Bilawal gave indications of action
At the same time, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto also indicated direct action against the terrorists if the Afghanistan government failed to rein in TTP.
Afghanistan’s statement also assumes significance as it comes at a time when Pakistan’s top civilian and military officials attended the second round of the all-important National Security Committee (NSC) meeting on Monday to address the fast-spreading wave of terror. Final approval will be given for a new military offensive to deal with.
