Joynagar Minor Girl Murder: A nine-year-old girl was murdered in Joynagar in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on Friday, October 4. His body was found late Friday night. The police have arrested the accused, an 18 year old youth.
The villagers allege that the police initially refused to register a missing report. A mob of 200 people vandalized the Mahishamari police post and set it on fire. When the police reached the village in the early hours of Saturday, October 5 to recover the body, angry villagers beat them up.
Questions raised on Mamta government
West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has targeted the Mamata government over this incident. “It seems that West Bengal Police learned nothing from the unfortunate RG Kar incident when a 31-year-old PGT doctor was raped and murdered,” she said in a long post on The girl, a class 4 student from South 24 Parganas district, was missing since yesterday afternoon when the family members went to the police camp to report to the on-duty police personnel.
He further wrote, “Instead of giving prompt response, the said police personnel seemed reluctant and trying to shirk their responsibility. Later the villagers themselves started searching for the missing child and in the morning the body of the child was recovered from a pond in Mahishamari. If the police had been active, the child could have been saved alive, but unfortunately the police was reluctant to perform its duty, for which the girl had to pay with her life.”
What is the whole matter?
People familiar with the matter said the victim, a Class 4 student, had gone to attend a tuition class around 2.30 pm on Friday. When she did not return home till late evening, her family members and villagers started searching for her.
The victim’s father told media persons, “She came to my shop in the local market around 5 pm while returning home from the tuition class. But when I returned home at night, I was told that she had not reached home. We started searching for her.” Later his body was found about a kilometer away from our house.”
