2020 Delhi riots: The Supreme Court refused to grant bail to Delhi riots accused Gulfisha Fatima, but asked the Delhi High Court to hear Gulfisha’s bail petition soon. The bench of Justices Bela Trivedi and SC Sharma said that the case is pending in the High Court. In such a situation, the Supreme Court will not interfere.
Senior lawyer Kapil Sibal appearing for Gulfisha said that she has been in jail for 4 years. The bail petition is pending in the High Court for a long time. The judges said that the case will be heard in the High Court on 25th November. The petitioner’s lawyers should request a hearing from the High Court on that day.
Gulfisha’s allegation in the context of Delhi riots
Student leader Gulfisha Fatima is in jail on charges of conspiring in the Delhi riots of February 2020. Delhi Police says that he played a role in instigating people by spreading misinformation. She was present in secret meetings related to the conspiracy of riots. Earlier on October 25, the Supreme Court had given the same order in the case of another accused in Delhi riots, Sharjeel Imam.
