Supreme Court asked these 3 sharp questions in Atiq Ahmed’s murder case, mention of Vikas Dubey encounter

Atiq Ahmed Case: The Supreme Court has sought a status report from the Uttar Pradesh government on the investigation into the murder of mafia Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf. The state government has to submit this report in 3 weeks. In the petition filed in the Supreme Court, a demand was made to get the matter investigated under the supervision of a retired Supreme Court judge, but at present the court has not given any order on this.

A bench of Justices S Ravindra Bhat and Dipankar Dutta took on record the statement of the UP government that it has constituted a commission headed by a retired High Court judge for the probe. Along with this, the police has also formed the SIT. Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for the state government, told the court that the government itself would file a status report in the Supreme Court. The judges agreed on this.

Supreme Court asked three questions
On April 15, mafia Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were murdered in Prayagraj. While hearing this, the judges asked sharp questions on why Atiq and Ashraf were brought to the hospital on foot? Why was he not brought in an ambulance? How did the killers get to know that both were being brought to the hospital?

Responding to this, the lawyer of the UP government said that the rule of getting health check-up done every 2 days is already going on. Due to the short distance, both were brought on foot. The killers were hiding there under the guise of journalists.

What did the judges say?
After hearing the reply of Mukul Rohatgi, the judges said that the UP government should file a status report on the circumstances of the murder and its investigation. The matter will be considered further after 3 weeks. In the petition filed by advocate Vishal Tiwari, a demand has also been made to investigate all the 183 encounters in UP since 2017 by a committee headed by a former Supreme Court judge.

On this, the judges said that the petitioners are calling all the encounters including the Assad encounter suspicious. We want to know what steps the Uttar Pradesh government has taken to implement the recommendations made by the Justice BS Chauhan Commission formed after the Vikas Dubey encounter? We should also be informed about this in the next hearing.
