Mount Horeb (America): A student was shot dead by police after receiving information about the presence of an armed man near a school in the US on Wednesday. The incident occurred outside a Wisconsin middle school. The state attorney general said local schools were then closed for an hour. Earlier, authorities said an armed man was shot dead outside Mount Horeb Middle School before he could enter the campus.
State Attorney General Josh Kaul told reporters that no one else was hurt in the incident on Wednesday evening and the investigation was ongoing. He said the incident happened outside the school. Officials said the student was a minor but did not release his age. Officials also could not say which school he attended in the Mount Horeb district. Kaul refused to answer many questions from the police. There was also a question whether the student had fired any shots. They also did not say what type of weapon he had and whether he had tried to go inside the school.
Other students were kept inside the school till late
The police remained at the spot for a long time and during this time the students were kept inside the school. Later, the students were allowed to go home after the parents arrived. The children and their parents were nervous after this incident. Parents said that children remained hidden in classrooms and were afraid to talk on the phone. Officials gave updated information through Facebook posts throughout the day. It was first reported around 11:30 am that all the schools had been closed. Officials said only the alleged attacker was harmed in the firing. Eyewitnesses said they heard gunshots and saw dozens of children running. A post made this afternoon said no one else was suspected after an initial investigation at the middle school.
The student had fired first
“We have no reports indicating any harm to anyone other than the attacker,” the post said. Earlier, officials had posted on Facebook that a gunshot wound was fired at a vehicle about 40 kilometers from the state capital Madison. The threat outside the school building in the village Mount Horeb has been foiled. Eyewitness Gene Keller said he heard five gunshots in his shop, a short walk from the middle school. “I thought it was fireworks,” Keller told The Associated Press by phone. I went out and saw all the children running. I probably saw 200 kids.” May 2 (AP)
