Himachal Pradesh SCA Election: After starting with student politics in Himachal, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu is at the top of the state’s power today. Now in such a situation, the hope of resumption of student union elections has arisen in the student organizations of the state. In the year 2014, the then Virbhadra government had banned the student union elections in the educational institutions of the state due to violent incidents in the student union elections. In Himachal Pradesh, the demand for restoration of student union elections kept on rising, but no result came out of it.

Before coming to power in the year 2017, BJP had also promised to restore the student union elections. The BJP government did not take any step till the end of five terms. Now there has been a change of government in the state. Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, himself once a part of the student union, holds the top post of Chief Minister. In such a situation, NSUI, ABVP and SFI are all hoping for restoration of elections from Chief Minister Sukhu. All student organizations are demanding in one voice to restore the student union elections in the state.

‘Government cannot take away the rights of students’

Student organizations of Himachal Pradesh University say that it was through the student union elections that along with Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh, other leaders got a chance to move forward in politics. All the students associated with the student organization are also its officers. They should also be given a chance. Student organizations say that due to the absence of elections, office bearers are nominated. These nominated officials do not even put the demands of the students in front of the administration. Along with Himachal Pradesh University, it is necessary to restore the student union elections in the colleges for the benefit of the students.
