Devendra Fadnavis Meets Raj Thackeray: The political stir in Maharashtra is not taking its name. Now the meeting between Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) President Raj Thackeray on Monday (May 29) has again raised a new issue. Now rumors have started flying in the political corridors about the alliance between BJP and MNS. However, regarding this meeting, Fadnavis has said that it was not a political meeting, but we met only to chat.
The Shinde-Fadnavis government in Maharashtra has not yet completed even one year. Meanwhile, MNS chief Raj Thackeray has gone to meet Devendra Fadnavis thrice at his house. On Monday, Fadnavis suddenly came to meet Raj Thackeray at 9 pm. There was a meeting between the two leaders for about one and a half hours.
How likely is an alliance between the two parties?
Raj Thackeray’s party has been doing politics on the issue of Marathi and provincialism till now. In such a situation, it has always been in the mind of BJP that if it joins hands with MNS, then the North Indian vote may slip away from them. Throughout the year, Raj Thackeray has been at the forefront of becoming the new poster boy of Hindutva by raising the issue of loudspeakers on mosques. It is believed that this alliance may be possible on the issue of Hindutva, but at present, like BJP, MNS is also not ready to open any cards regarding the alliance.
There are two schools of thought among Maharashtra BJP leaders regarding alliance with MNS. Some leaders feel that by keeping the MNS out of the alliance, more electoral gains can be made. If the MNS remains in the role of the opposition, then there will be a division in the votes of the opposition, BJP and the Shinde alliance can directly benefit from this. While some leaders believe that Raj Thackeray’s style of campaigning can prove useful in bringing Marathi votes in the alliance’s fold.
Raj Thackeray had rejected BJP’s offer earlier also
On the other hand, talking about the MNS party, since its formation in 2006, till now the party has never tasted power. Raj Thackeray has also told the workers that you work, I will do the work of putting you in power. It is also being understood as a sign of alliance between BJP and MNS. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Nitin Gadkari offered Raj Thackeray to join the BJP. Then Raj Thackeray had rejected the offer.
