Steve Smith Scores 32nd Test Hundred: The second Test match of the Ashes series 2023 is being played between England and Australia at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground. In the first session of the game on the second day of the Lord’s Test, the best century innings was seen with the bat of Steve Smith. At the end of the first day’s play, Smith was unbeaten on 85 runs. After this, with the start of the second day’s play, he also completed his 32nd century in the Test format. Smith returned to the pavilion after scoring 110 runs in his innings.
Steve Smith’s bat has been seen speaking fiercely in the Ashes so far. This was his 12th Test century against the England team in Test format. In the first Test match, Smith’s bat did not appear to be speaking as expected. He was able to score only 22 runs in total in both the innings. Sir Donald Bradman holds the record for most Test centuries for Australia in the Ashes, who did it 19 times.
Now in terms of scoring a century in the Test format for Australia, Smith has also equaled former veteran captain Steve Waugh, who scored 32 centuries in 168 Tests. For Australia, the record for scoring the most centuries in the Test format is in the name of Ricky Ponting, who has scored 41 centuries.
Smith went far ahead of Virat Kohli in terms of Test centuries
If we look at the Test centuries of the current Fab 4 batsmen in world cricket, then Steve Smith is at the first place with 32 Test centuries. Whereas Virat Kohli is fourth in this list with 28 Test centuries. Apart from this, former England captain Joe Root has so far scored 30 Test centuries while former Kiwi captain Kane Williamson has 28 Test centuries.
