The next meeting of the International Olympic Committee will be held at the Jio World Convention Center in Mumbai. In the voting for hosting this annual meeting to be held in 2023, India got 75 votes out of valid 76 votes. After winning the hosting rights with an overwhelming majority, IOC member and Reliance Foundation chairperson Nita Ambani called it a proud moment for India.
Leading the Indian delegation, Nita Ambani strongly advocated for the upcoming meeting of the IOC in India. He told the IOC members, ‘It is our dream to bring Youth Olympics and Olympic Games to India in future. We want the youth of India, the youngest country in the world, to feel the grandeur and grandeur of the Olympics. We want to further strengthen this partnership’.
Expressing happiness on hosting the IOC Annual Meeting, Nita Ambani said that “The Olympic Movement is coming back to India after 40 years of waiting. I would like to present to India the honor of hosting the IOC session in Mumbai in 2023.” Grateful to the Olympic Committee. It will usher in a new era for Indian sports.” Nita Ambani also proposed to launch a series of specific sports development programs for the youth of disadvantaged communities on the occasion of the Olympic session 2023.
The Indian delegation included Nita Ambani, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President Dr Narinder Batra, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur and Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra in shooting. In the ongoing IOC annual session in Beijing, the Indian delegation virtually joined India’s side to host the upcoming meeting.
International Olympic Committee session will be held in India after four decades. The last event was held in 1983. In the session, IOC members discuss important topics such as the Olympic Charter and the election of the host city of the Olympics.
Indian Olympic Association President Dr Narinder Batra said in a statement, “I thank Nita Ambani for her vision and leadership and all my IOC colleagues for their support.” Will wait for you in Mumbai next year. This is the beginning of a new era for India’s sport. We want the Olympic Movement to play a central role in building the bright future of our next generation. Hosting a memorable IOC session in Mumbai in 2023 will be the first step towards showcasing India’s new sporting potential.
